Our kids love playgrounds of all sorts. They are especially huge fans of indoor playgrounds. Reason? They can play to their hearts’ content without getting burnt by the scorching sun! So, they were really thrilled when I brought them to check out Fun at Giggles during the December school holidays.
Fun at Giggles is a relatively new indoor playground which was opened in 2013. It is located at Marine Parade Central, just opposite Parkway Parade.
When we first entered the playground, we were greeted by their friendly staff who took photographs of each of our three kids on their iPad, as part of their registration procedure. I was then handed the iPad to key in our particulars. Once that was done, the staff then got our kids to sanitise their hands and off they went dashing into the playground.
The first thing that caught our two younger kids’ attention was the ball pool, which is not surprising since they love ball pools!
When Jay saw the ball pool, he too was excited and did what he always does when he sees a ball pool – JUMP! Into it. Big mistake here, as he soon realised that this ball pool was too shallow for him to jump into. Nevertheless, it was good enough for Elly and she played in it for a considerable amount of time, picking and throwing the balls.
Unlike most indoor playgrounds we have been to, the main playground structure at Giggles, known as the Activity Tower, is a sturdy, wooden structure, much like what outdoor playgrounds are made of. There are 7 activities that children and their parents can play with at the Activity Tower. Our boys went straight to try out the more challenging parts!
Jay attempted to climb up the rock wall all by himself. The caring staff at Giggles could be seen watching out for the children’s safety at the Activity Tower and offered their assistance very willingly when needed.
As the rock wall was a tad too tough for Elly, she tried her hands (or rather, her feet) at the balancing beams. This, she was able to do without help, and she loved it!
She had a great time walking around and exploring the Activity Tower.
The good thing about this indoor playground is the open concept. I was able to see where my 3 children were at a glance.
You might be wondering, where are the two boys?
Well, the friendly staff at Giggles had introduced to them the SONA, which is the large orange arch right at the front of the playground. SONA is an interactive play system that uses motion detection and sounds to engage children in a variety of games. Giggles is the first ever indoor playground in Asia that is equipped with SONA!
When the staff first switched on the SONA and got our eldest, Zac, to try it, he was a bit hesitant.
However, pretty soon, he warmed up and both boys had such a great time jumping and stepping on the numbers called out by the voice from the interactive system. Our kids are generally very quiet in new settings and among strangers. They usually take a long time to warm up to people they do not know. So, I was very surprised that they warmed up to the staff at Giggles so quickly that afternoon and were running around playing catching with three of the workers!
As Elly was too little to play with SONA, she went exploring around the place and had a great time playing at the cosy corner with the kitchen sets and riding on some kiddy motorbikes.
Although the size of this indoor playground is not as big as some of those we’ve been to, the super-friendly and enthusiastic staff is a great plus point of Giggles. Besides the playground facilities, Giggles also offers various programmes for children and adults, such as Speech & Drama (Kids), Yoga (Kids & Adults), PIlates (Kids & Adults), Pre-natal Pregnancy Yoga/Pilates, Dance (Tots) and Baby Signs courses. When we were there, we saw two of their staff conducting a Story-Telling session for toddlers too! You can check out their courses here.
There is also a spacious room next door, known as The Hutch, which can be used as a venue for events and birthday parties.
We spent a good 3 hours or so at Giggles that afternoon. When it was time for us to leave, our trio didn’t want to go! Our boys, especially, didn’t wish to stop playing with the Giggles staff. They have entirely won the hearts of our two boys, I’d say. Till today, Jay still talks about them and wants to go back and play with them again!
