I used to run regularly and would go for a jog at least once a week. As life gets more hectic this year, with me juggling kids, family and career, I find it a real challenge to fit running into my busy schedule. To make things worse, there was the haze!
With less time for exercise, I felt my fitness level dropped drastically over the past few months. How can I keep fit in the midst of my crazy schedule?
So, it was timely when Fitbit sent me a Fitbit Surge to try out. Honestly, I have never used a Fitness Tracker before. Does it really help us to keep fit? I was rather skeptical.
After wearing the Fitbit Surge for merely two weeks, I have already seen a great improvement in my fitness level! I can safely say that, yes, Fitbit Surge has helped me put fitness back into my hectic lifestyle!
Termed “The Ultimate Fitness Super Watch”, Fitbit Surge comes equipped with an impressive range of features:
Heart Rate Monitoring
(by the green optical sensor at the bottom of the watch)
Tracking of Calories Burnt
Track number of steps taken in a day
Track number of floors climbed in a day
Mobile Phone Call / Messages Notifications
Food Plan / Diet Plan
(Helps to work towards weight loss goals!)
Fitbit Surge works with a free app that you can download onto your mobile phone and your fitness stats from your Fitbit Surge are synced wirelessly to your phone.
Of all the amazing features in Fitbit Surge, there are two that has helped me put exercise back into my busy life.
Two Features of Fitbit Surge that has helped me put fitness back into my busy life:
1. Daily Steps Tracking
As a busy work-at-home mother, it can be challenging for me to carve time out for exercise. With my Fitbit Surge, I can now track the number of steps I take in a day. To stay fit and healthy, it is recommended that one should take 10,000 steps a day. How on earth are we going to count our steps to 10,000 everyday? It is possible, with Fitbit Surge.
The steps tracker counts the number of steps I take and the counter resets every day. With this steps tracker, not only am I able to keep track of the number of steps I take in a day, I am also motivated to hit my 10,000 steps every single day! So when I see that I am falling short of the 10,000 steps, I will make an effort to walk around more, albeit at home or take a walk outdoors with the kids.
It is very satisfying when I see the number 10,000 on my Fitbit Surge!
The lovely thing about the Fitbit app is that once you’ve hit 10,000 steps, you will receive a badge and an email congratulating you on achieving that daily goal.
Prior to having the Fitbit Surge, I used the Runkeeper app to track my run. The thing about using Runkeeper is, I have to carry my big Samsung Note mobile phone with me whenever I run. I used to strap my phone on my upper arm, which can be uncomfortable and bulky.
Now, with Fitbit Surge, I just need to wear the watch when I run! I had initially thought that it might be too bulky for my wrist, but it turned out that it fits nicely and comfortably. (Mine is size ‘small’.)
Fitbit Surge offers 3 options for Run tracking – Free Run, Treadmill Run and Lap Run.
I usually choose the Free Run option.
Once you start running, the numbers start moving too. There are trackers for Heart Rate, Calories, Steps, Time of Day, Pace, Average Pace, Total Time Taken and Total Distance Covered.
These are useful information for a runner.
What I like about Fitbit is that these information are synced with your mobile Fitbit app and are being displayed on your phone as charts such as these:
Another feature of Fitbit that I like when I run is that for every 1 km that I’ve ran, the watch vibrates once. This is one vital feature that helps me keep track of the distance ran and motivates me not to stop until I have reached my target distance.
I am not one who wears watches. But my Fitbit Surge has become both my watch and Fitness Companion!
Are you living a sedentary lifestyle because you are either too busy or too tired to exercise? It is possible to put fitness back into your busy and sedentary life.
